Hello Spring Democrats:
I wish all of you could have been at the Texas State Democratic Party Convention in Austin. It was historic and the largest ever. It was a little sad though because by Friday it was evident that Hillary Clinton's bid for the presidency was over. I felt sad for some of her delegates who, after Chelsea Clinton spoke and a chant of "Unity" began in the hall, could not even get out of their chairs. And I'm sure that, if the results had been different, a lot of Obama delegates would have felt the same way. But, what is so great about this whole political season is the number of people who have become politically energized by both of these candidates. The Convention Chair asked all who were attending their first convention to stand and, I think, half the crowd stood up. That's terrific. I truly believe in "WE the people..." and this is definitely the election when We will be heard.
But, the upcoming election isn’t going to be a cake-walk to Washington….John McCain leads by a few percentage points in some polls and loses by a few in others. We have to work to keep everyone activated to win in November. McCain is not an option for Democratic women. He is a fierce opponent of Choice, voted to terminate the federal family-planning program that provides breast-cancer screenings, among other things, and stood by quietly when she was called a “B….”. There is too much at stake in this election - from the Harris County Courthouse to our State Legislature and most certainly at the National level. We must have a Democratic President and a Democratic controlled House and Senate. So let’s get started. I want to hear your ideas on what the Spring Dems can do to Turn Texas Blue!!
